This DIY outdoor chalkboard would be great to have in any backyard! All you need is chalkboard paint, a roller and a wall…. easy peasy. I wanted to first spackle the wall so it would be smooth but my husband didn’t want me to ruin the wall (men!). I recommend doing that if you are able. With our chalkboard wall it is so highly textured that it makes it hard to erase. I spray it off with a hose every once and awhile and the sprinklers get most of the chalk off. The chalkboard paint was only 9.99$ at Home Depot and I barely used half of it, you can order the same stuff HERE on amazon. Home Depot also had various colors if you wanted to do a wall in your child’s bedroom in a certain color, seems like a cool idea for older kids!
Here is how I painted it, pretty straightforward 🙂
And Voilla!! Finished chalkboard for your kids to play with. It does not erase very well so we hose it down whenever Scarlett wants a clean palette, or a new holiday has arrived (it now says Happy Holidays!)

My son would love something like that. Being able to write on the walls and not get in trouble for it.
Haha I know Bette, but it’s just not as fun if it is “ok”. Scarlett loves writing on her chalkboard tho it is great
What a great idea. My main problem with chalk and chalkboards is the mess! An outdoor chalkboard is perfect!!
Thanks Katie! Super easy to do
This so cool, I pinned an idea like this in the summer. I like this one better because you don’t have to make a giant frame to hang on your fence! I let the kids write on our wooden fence with chalk.
