I just couldn’t help myself. I plan on making Scarlett a ridiculous outfit every holiday…… I wanted a girl so bad and am taking advantage of tutu wearing as much as possible. For Christmas she was a snowman, and for valentines day she is the queen of hearts! This is a super easy toddler tutu valentine outfit you can make without sewing. Hot glue, hot glue, hot glue people.
** Sorry all of these pictures are so terrible. I was crafting late night in dim light…. wine in one hand, camera in the other. I need 3 arms… one for wine, one for camera, one for scissors.. ok 4 hands, I need one for hot glue as well
I used the tutu I made for Christmas. Visit my Snowman Outfit post for tutorial on how to make the tutu, it is super easy. I HIGHLY recommend making one white tutu to use all year round, then for each holiday you can just add a different color tulle. For Valentines day I simply added some sparkly grey and pink tulle. I plan on pulling off the pink and adding green for St. Patricks day. Ok ok.. I know… jumping ahead to the next holiday already sheesh.
Next I made the crown. Another super easy project. These would be a great birthday favor for a party. I only used 6-8 pipe cleaners for one crown. Simply make a circle out of 2 pipe cleaners as your base. Then shape the pipe cleaners into hearts and fix them onto a circle using a triangle shape as pictured below. Honestly I just made this up as I go… once you start playing with the pipe cleaners you will figure out what you want them to do. I used bobby pins to secure the crown into Scarlett’s hair.
The wand is really simple. I actually made a bunch of these for Scarlett’s 1st birthday as a party favor. All you need to do is paint the dowel pink, cut out the heart using felt and fabrics. First hot glue your fabrics to the felt. Then sandwich the hearts together with the dowel in between. So simple and kids LOVE THESE. Plus they are pretty safe since the end is soft. You can cover both ends in felt if you want to be extra safe. {Sorry about the dark pictures, I was crafting at night}
Last step was the heart onesie. I have a package of 18 mo onesies I have been using for the last 6 months for random projects. When I want to make Scarlett a holiday outfit I just pull out one of these white onesies and decorate it. If you saw my Snowman Outfit Post you would see how I hot glued on black rosette felt “buttons” to the onesie. For this costume I simply hot glued on heart cut out of fabric with glitter tulle on top. Would this withstand the washer dryer? Probably not. If I wanted her to wear this again I would SEW the hearts on.
It didn’t take long for Scarlett to pull off her crown and her tutu…
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY EVERYONE!! I hope you have a fabulous day 🙂
