I recently made my SohoSonnet Creative Living Facebook page (follow me HERE) and was super excited to see all of my friends and family supporting me and liking my page! Facebook is awesome.
Yesterday I asked everyone to share craft projects that they have done so far this season and I got some really GREAT ideas back. Thank you to those who were sweet enough to share your pictures and ideas with me. Now I will share them with you (listed in the order that I received them). Presenting DIY Christmas Craft ideas from facebook friends!
HAND GLOVE ANIMALS
These little animals are made out of hand gloves! They are so stinkin cute and would be a great gift for any child. My friend Jen Evens shared this on my page and she said that each one takes about 1.5 hours. Find the tutorial HERE (Of course it is Martha Stewart, she is secretly taking over the world) . You can get packages of gloves for good prices at stores like Ross and Marshalls.
BURLAP HOLIDAY WREATH
Next up is my friend Mona Lopez’s Burlap Holiday Wreath. She used wire hangers to make her base, burlap for the wreath body and golden jute for the bow. It seems like burlap is so popular right now, with good reason… it has a great rustic look and matches most colors in your house. If you would like to know how to make a wreath visit Wheretheheartis.com tutorial HERE.
PICTURE MAGNETS
These are a PERFECT Christmas gifts for friends, neighbors, co-workers. Everyone needs magnets, I usually have 3-4 pictures or invitations stacked under one magnet at my house and it is a tacky dentist business card. I would actually love to have a set of these (hint hint Laurel). My VERY good friend Laurel Orlosky made these today and sent me pictures as she was crafting. She said that my Wedding Favor Post (found HERE) inspired her. The best part is that she incorporated her kid’s artwork into them, niiiiiiiice!
Materials: decoupage medium (or modpodge), scissors, paint brush, magnets, scrapbook paper or any artwork and glass beads. 1) Cut out your picture 2) Adhere to the bottom of the bead so the picture is right side up using decoupage 3) Let Dry 4) Add a layer of decoupage to the outside of the picture to seal it 5) Let dry 6) Glue on magnet to the back.
FRAMED BURLAP HOLIDAY CARD HANGER
Super cute shabby chic Christmas holiday card hanger from my sister Megan Saint-Evens! She removed the glass and backing, painted the outside with basic acrylic paint (the vintage rugged feel will happen as long as you paint a light color paint over a dark base, coating thin. Or you can coat thicker and sand down any curves or edges to expose the dark base. Or use crackle paint mediums). She hot glued the burlap to the back. Added the twine and button to the front, then used clothes pins to hang her cards! I love this, so gorgeous and you can use it all year since it is not Christmas colors. Hang family pictures on it during times when there are no cards coming in.
HUGS AND KISSES JAR
This is so great to have at home for kids (ok and for us chocoholic moms). My friend Breanne Forsman sent this to me. The Christmas color kisses really make it extra festive for the holidays but I would have this up all year, change out the kisses every time a new holiday comes! I found the tutorial for this online check it out Dandelionsanddustbunnies.com tutorial HERE
WINE CORK CHRISTMAS WREATH
My friend’s mom Lisa Himmelspach made this wine cork wreath which I think is a great way to recycle corks (I’m sure my collection could fill a wreath, and it’s a great excuse to drink more wine if you run out!). If you would like to see a tutorial for making a cork wreath visit Livingsavvy’s tutorial HERE . For a list of other fabulous cork projects visit Addicted2decorating.coms HERE
Thanks to everyone who shared their ideas with me! I love them all so much and hope anyone reading this does too. Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend! -Sonnet
